In Ndjolé and Oyem, the mining company Alpha Centauri Mining (ACM) combines gold mining with social responsibility through an ambitious agroforestry program. In response to the impact of its activities, the company has already reforested more than 100 hectares and developed 10 hectares of vegetable crops.

The company Alpha Centauri Mining recently presented the results of its agroforestry program in the towns of Ndjolé (Moyen-Ogooué) and Oyem (Woleu-Ntem). The company has deployed its CSR initiatives to benefit the local economy and the environment. 

Indeed, in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy, the mining company Alpha Centauri Mining (ACM), through its subsidiary ACM Exploitation, continues its commitments to sustainable development through its agroforestry program, launched in the localities of Ndjolé and Oyem, areas impacted by its activities.

Based on an inclusive and environmental vision, this program combines reforestation, sustainable agriculture, and the creation of local jobs. To date, “more than 100 hectares have been dedicated to reforestation efforts in order to restore ecosystems and combat deforestation,” the company states.

In parallel, the company continues, “10 hectares have been developed for agricultural purposes, with production focused on peppers and vegetables.”

The result: “More than 80 tons of agricultural products were harvested and then sold at a third of the local market price, thus facilitating access to healthy and affordable food for the surrounding communities. These actions also created direct jobs for young people and women in the areas concerned.”

A second site of approximately 7 hectares is currently being installed in Oyem, thus strengthening the territorial reach and positive impact of the initiative,” the company emphasizes.

Through these actions, Alpha Centauri Mining reaffirms its ambition to be a responsible mining player, committed not only to the sustainable exploitation of Gabonese gold, but also to the preservation of biodiversity, the fight against poverty and the support of local economies.
