The environment is “the set of elements that surround an individual or a species and some of which contribute directly to its needs.”
In order to preserve the environment, several organizations at the national and international levels fight for better management of this environment.
ACM has its Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIAS), validated by the administration in charge of environmental regulation of the country, and we keep updating the same as and when required, respecting Decree 539/PR/MEFEPEN of July 15, 2005, which regulates the obtaining of the EIAS certificate, in support of the regulations of the Gabonese Mining Code.
Certain practices we follow to preserve and conserve the environment are:
- Planning based on hydrography surveys to minimize exploitation
- Managing the tailings of the metals to have minimum wastage
- Reducing the falling of trees for developmental purposes
- Planning road access trails to prevent deforestation
- Sustainably carrying out operations and managing the land
- Conducting environmental risk assessments before all projects
- Proper waste management of all types of industrial and household wastes.
The Water Management Policy of ACM is fully in line with the expectations of sustainable development, and we are focused on better water quality around our operating sites, which is a major challenge. That’s why ACM has set up its own water testing laboratory to regularly test the water quality and ensure that it remains viable not only for wildlife and aquatic environments but also for local communities.
Mining operations usually create a negative environmental impact, both during the mining activity and after the mine has closed. Mine rehabilitation is the process of repairing the damage done by mining activities. This can sometimes involve making the site safe and stable. ACM’s best practices strive to create a landscape that can support future uses of the land.
At ACM, we do our best to ensure that we comply with environmental laws and that we go further to protect the environment in the best possible way.
We at ACM take pride in our strategy to rehabilitate the mined land in a continuous process for the land to regain its natural self and benefit the community.
