Alpha Centauri Mining’s (ACM) business is set to improve in quality. Gabon’s leading gold producer and exporter announced on February 22 in Libreville the upcoming opening of a precious metal refinery in the Nkok Special Economic Zone (Zerp). Refining gold produces gold of the highest purity.
“The company is not limited to mining, but also excels in processing. In this regard, ACM is currently setting up the first gold refinery in the Nkok Special Economic Zone. We expect this new unit to be launched by mid-2022,” said ACM’s CEO. “And this refinery will be not only the first in Gabon, but also in Central Africa.” “We will start with a capacity of 4 tons per year and we hope that Gabon will eventually become an exporter of refined gold only,” added Anand Bajla.
Jobs on the horizon for Gabonese people
The company, operating in Moyen-Ogooué, also intends to launch tertiary processing with jewelry, etc. “The project is still under review,” said Anand Bajla. The Minister of Mines enthusiastically welcomed the upcoming opening of a gold refinery. “With the requirement being pushed by the President of the Republic, we must go beyond the export of raw products, but rather undertake secondary and tertiary processing locally,” said Vincent de Paul Massassa.
Moreover, added the member of the government, “these are only much more beneficial aspects because they are elements that bring added value to the production and the products that we have: these are jobs that we create, it is the diversification in our economy that we are requesting and wanting. With the establishment of this factory, these are new specializations that will constitute job offers for the Gabonese, even more than in the past.”
